Lectures on Dimension Theory

چکیده
Preliminaries In this lecture, we give a quick review of the basics of classical commutative algebra. The following notation and terminology is used throughout. By a ring we mean a commutative ring with identity. For sets I, J, we write I ⊆ J to denote that I is a subset of J and I ⊂ J to denote that I is a proper subset of J, i.e., I ⊆ J and I = J. We denote the set of nonnegative integers by N and for any n ∈ N, by N n we denote the set of n-tuples of elements of N. We use the abbreviation 'iff' to mean 'if and only if'.

Dimension Theory Local and Global
These survey lectures are devoted to a new subject of the large scale dimension theory which was initiated by Gromov as a part of asymptotic geometry. We are going to enter the large scale world and consider some new concepts, results and examples which are parallel in many cases to the corresponding elements of the standard (local) dimension theory. We start our presentation with the motivations.
متن کاملRicci curvature , entropy and optimal transport – Summer School in Grenoble 2009 – ‘ Optimal Transportation : Theory and Applications
These notes are the planned contents of my lectures. Some parts could be only briefly explained or skipped due to the lack of time or possible overlap with other lectures. The aim of these lectures is to review the recent development on the relation between optimal transport theory and Riemannian geometry. Ricci curvature is the key ingredient. Optimal transport theory provides a good character...
متن کاملQuantum gravity as sum over spacetimes
A major unsolved problem in theoretical physics is to reconcile the classical theory of general relativity with quantum mechanics. These lectures will deal with an attempt to describe quantum gravity as a path integral over geometries. Such an approach has to be non-perturbative since gravity is a non-renormalizable quantum field theory when the dimension of spacetime is four. In that case the ...
متن کاملConformal Killing Spinors and Special Geometric Structures in Lorentzian Geometry - a Survey
This paper is a survey on special geometric structures that admit conformal Killing spinors based on lectures, given at the “Workshop on Special Geometric Structures in String Theory”, Bonn, September 2001 and at ESI, Wien, November 2001. We discuss the case of Lorentzian signature and explain which geometries occur up to dimension 6.
متن کاملA String Project in Multicolour Qcd
Some old and new evidence for the existence of the string (planar random surfaces) representation of multicolour QCD are reviewed. They concern the random surface representation of the strong coupling expansion in lattice multicolour gauge theory in any dimension. Our old idea of modified strong coupling expansion in terms of planar random surfaces, valid for the physical weak coupling phase of...
متن کاملAlgorithmic Stability 3 4 Regularization Algorithms in an RKHS
In the last few lectures we have seen a number of different generalization error bounds for learning algorithms, using notions such as the growth function and VC dimension; covering numbers, pseudo-dimension, and fatshattering dimension; margins; and Rademacher averages. While these bounds are different in nature and apply in different contexts, a unifying factor that they all share is that tha...
